1960 1961 - Dr. John A. C. Greppin -
E-mail: j.greppin@csuohio.edu
- I taught Greek and Latin when the school opened, 1960 -61, but moved
on the next year to Woodstock country school. Then I took a PhD in
Indo-European Studies at UCLA with a specialty in Classical Armenian. I
have taught at Cleveland State University for the past thirty
years and teach Greek, Latin, and Linguistics. (I have ten students for
elementary Sanskrit this year). Married to Mary for 44 years now; two
children and three Grandchildren. I especially remember some Latin
students from Stowe; Jimmy Klein, Mike, and Brad Moser. Anybody ever
heard of them. |

Miles is Professor Educational Administration, Past-President, UNL
Academic Senate, Co-Chair, UNL-UNO Joint Doctoral Program at The

"My wife, Sarah Bauman, and I left Stowe School and northern Vermont in
the late seventies. We moved to California and I attended Stanford and
earned a doctoral degree in education. Part way through that time we ran
out of money and I took a job as the headmaster of a small private
school in Santa Cruz. I could watch the grey whales migrate from my
office window. That job soon ran out of its appeal. During that time
Sarah and I had two children, Ben and Zac. Ben is now studying to be a
medical doctor. Zac is now studying--a sophomore at the University of
Nebraska where I teach. I mainly work with students doing educational
research although I also teach a few courses to students in educational
administration. The Stowe School has been an inspiration to me and a
good many Nebraska educators know of it as a unique educational culture
that had more purpose and intention its behavior than the vast majority
of public schools. I would welcome emails from any of you who wish to
share stories of the past and I applaud John Nielsen for putting this
together." |

pcoburn@cli-usa.com I am
currently running Commercial Logic, Inc., a software company
www.cli-usa.com that I started in
the '80's that does time and billing software for professionals that
keep and bill their time. Our offices are in Hanover, NH. I remain
active in Outward Bound and keep my connection with teaching and
education green through that connection. Too much to tell in this short
space, but I love hearing from friends from the Stowe School days. Alas,
I cannot make the reunion until Sunday, August 7, but will make the trip
if any will still be there by 10 am. |

I moved to Peaks Island, ME in 1975, and I still spend 4 months there
every year. I continued as a painter but I also work full time against
the death penalty, giving assistance to prisoners and their families and
doing investigation on cases. I married Laird almost 10 years ago and we
started spending 8 months a year in Mancos, CO. We see Sally Brinkerhoff
(Moss) in Granville, Ohio and Barbara Hawes, who is coming here tomorrow
from CT for a day, and Chris Heinzmann through our mutual interest in
bluegrass music. Angela Faeth lives on Peaks Island too. url:

DeWolf (Wolf) Fulton, Bristol, Rhode Island - E-Mail:
dewolf1@cox.net "After leaving
beautiful Stowe in 1975, I attended English grad school at U. Denver and
cavorted with undergrad Tony Stedem, since married to another DU grad
with two lovely girls in Colorado Springs. After two year teaching at the
Greenhill School in Dallas, Texas, I returned home to Bristol, RI to
serve as editor of the local newspaper, a stint on assignment desk at
the Providence ABC TV News affiliate, opened my advertising, marketing,
PR firm and in 1985 married longtime Colorado belle Martha Reed. We had
two kids pronto (Marshall and Rosie). I worked from 1992 until last year
as one of the communications people (read "spin doctors") for Providence
Mayor Vincent "Buddy" Cianci. Unfortunately Buddy is now serving five
years at Ft. Bragg Federal on a RICO charge. You may have read his
unauthorized bio "Prince of Providence" now on the NYT best
seller list. Working for him was a trip, but we did wonders for
Providence. I'm now back to teaching...this time urban school 8th
graders (70% Spanish, 20% black and 4% SE Asian). I'm usually one of two
crackers in the room, but I'm back in the teaching groove I love so
much. At 57, I'm very happy, Marshall is a freshman at Providence College
and Rosie a Junior at Portsmouth (RI) Abbey School. Please contact me by
email or phone. I'm always hot to hear Stowe School News. |

Wenatchee, WA - E-Mail:
painenm@gmail.com,
"Raised Lance and Ben in Wenatchee. We've been
busy teaching, coaching, traveling (we lived in Australia for a year,
went around the world for a year's sabbatical leave, led student trips
to Europe, Russia, Australia,). Life has been very, very good. Now with
an "empty nest, we are exploring and revitalizing new and old options.
Bought new hiking gear (the Stowe stuff was worn out), and we're ready
for that hike. Bring it on". |

tinoobrien@aol.com , married
Christine from Food for thought in Stowe moved to Maine. Built our own
house raised three kids while working for Outward Bound for a total of
20 years. My wife died of cancer after a long battle. Kids and I moved
to Montpelier Vermont worked for Ben and Jerry's for 5 years. left and
became a consultant in Management development. Last 6 years full time
consulting all over the world mostly big corporations. Got remarried to
a wonderful woman recently who is chief tree- hugging environmentalist
in Vermont. Elizabeth has three kids of her own so we are a large
blended family. Still have two teenagers home- just like the old days
still dealing with sex drugs and rock and roll. In the meantime still
find time to snowboard surf and build stone walls. I'm getting older and
dumber but still vertical and taking nourishment. I think often of
the wonderful vital rascals students and faculty who peopled this rich
experiment in education. Who are you now, who am I, who are we? Perhaps
some answers may unfold here... Tino |

school level. After almost twenty years in Seattle, Phil moved back to
New England with his wife Jinny. "I am teaching at another boarding
school, Phillips Exeter Academy. It is a little different from the Stowe
School., bound by its history and traditions. I have to say that of the
three school I have taught at in the US, I go back to the yearbooks from
Stowe the most often." Phil and Jinny have a son, Hugo age 23. |

- Marilyn May - E-Mail:
maym5@aol.com "I've heard about this site now from Philip Mallinson
and Miles Bryant. I worked at Stowe School (and lived at the Foster
Place) from 1972 as babysitter for J. Harry and Janet Feldman; 1973-1976
in the kitchen and the office as registrar, assistant to the Director of
Admissions (Miles B. and Bob Paine) and finally as English
teacher/alumni secretary around 1978. I've kept in touch with a number
of Stowe School faculty, staff and alumni. I am a 5th grade teacher in
Morrisville, VT and now have taught the children of some alumni and work
with some former staff members. I live two doors from an alumnus as
well, so Stowe School is not just a distant memory for me." |

jill@thepalmbeachcookie.com,
Thank you for your work putting together the Stowe School website. It
was such an amazing trip down memory lane to just glance there and be
flooded with all this emotion. Wow! I was looking for my friend Shelby
Schue and discovered you. I have lived a very rich and full life since
my days as Art/French teacher at The Stowe School. I was curious about
Gary Hertz, Michael Kaiser, Lisa, I read Gary had passed. I read also
about Jane Handy a little I wondered about Jack. I spent an amazing
Winter trek with Jack Handy and students. Let me know more please and I
will write you something if you give me guidelines or wish. Please check
out some of my websites for information about me.
